Fire Wire Flexible Grilling Skewer sponsors the 2nd annual Kansas State Championship BBQ cook off, Smokin’ Behind The Barn in Winfield, Kansas.  This even takes place on Friday, August 29tht and Saturday, August 30th. Smokin’ Behind The Barn is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society and will bring participants from Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas and Kansas. 

The first annual Fire Wire Flexible Grilling Skewer grilling contest will be held on Friday, August 29th.  Each participating team will receive a set of 2 Fire Wire Flexible Grilling Skewers to prepare their choice of meats and veggies.  Competing Teams will submit their selections to the 3 person judging panel at 7:30 PM.  All entries will be judged on the following categories:

Originality
Presentation
Taste
Tenderness (for meat) / Texture (for veggies)

• Judges may not fraternize with teams on turn-in day until the conclusion of judging. (at which time all types of fraternization, and eating are allowed and encouraged)
  
• Judging will be done by a team of 3 persons, who are at least 16 years of age. 2 judges will be Fire Wire representatives and 1 judge will be supplied by the contest organizers.
  
• Each judge will first score all the samples for originality and presentation of the skewer contents. The turn-in containers will then be passed around the table and each judge will place a sample from each of the containers in the appropriate box on the judging mat. The judge will then score each entry for taste tenderness and texture, before moving on to the next entry.
  
• The scoring system is from 9 to 2, all whole numbers between two and nine may be used to score an entry. 9 excellent, 8 very good, 7 above average, 6 average, 5 below average, 4 poor, 3 bad, and 2 inedible
  
• A score of one (1) is a disqualification and requires approval by a Fire Wire rep.
  Grounds for disqualification: Marked turn-in container or judges not receiving a sample.
  
• Equal weight will be assigned to each of the 4 judging categories.
  
• The low score will be thrown out. Results will be tallied. If there is a tie in one of the categories or in total, it will be broken by coin toss conducted by the lead judge from Fire Wire.
